MISTAKES THAT CAN RUIN YOUR JOB INTERVIEW
You struggled in sending applications for your career job vacancy and fortunately you get invited for an interview, remember landing an interview is half the battle.
On the day of the interview, you dress in your amazing official wear and hit the road to the interview location only to find a number of other candidates waiting to be called upon. After a few hours of waiting it was your turn to be interviewed but you realized that candidates who were interviewed before you stayed longer in the interview room and it only took you five minutes in there.
In case, you are wondering there are mistakes that easily kill your interview and as a job seeker you need to be aware of what they are:
Arriving late even with a good reason
Showing up late to an interview is just about the worst thing you can do when making your first impression to a potential employer, Yes, there may have been an accident that caused a traffic tie-up, but it might not matter.
Predicting about a situation on the road is almost to impossible by that you’re required to leave early for the interview and wait in a nearby café until you can show up 10minutes before the appointed time.
Being rude
Unfortunately a huge number of candidates have this problem and the sad part is that they are not even aware of it. When it comes to an interview, you do have to be friendly. A potential employer is looking for someone with a personality that fits with the team and your interview is your one chance to show that off. Make sure you smile and appear interested in the conversation. And while you’re at it, mind your manners! The interview room is not your home, so don’t slouch, put your feet up, or attempt to pip on your phone in the middle of everything.
Talking too much
Talking in an interview room is not a problem but talking too much is, some people tend to talk a lot when they are nervous but they end up rambling about something completely unrelated to the initial question.
Preparing for an interview beforehand will help you nail down your answers so you’re ready to provide a clear and concise response. Speak slowly when you answer so you’re fully aware of your response and always keep in mind the end point you’re trying to make.
Not reading up on the company
Before your interview, it’s important to do your homework and research the company and the role you’re pursuing. Showing genuine interest in the company and having knowledge of their history, values and goals proves that you’re a viable candidate who is motivated to contribute to their success. It’s common for an interviewer to ask why you’re seeking employment at their company, so be sure to prepare a solid answer that’s in line with their mission.
Lying about your skills
The purpose of every interview is to confirm the information in your CV is truthful and your skills are reliable. You may want to impress the interviewers but lying should be out of the picture.
Take it for instance you lied to speak fluent German and coincidentally on of the interviewer knows the language and asks a question in German what will you do?
It’s never a good idea to lie, there’s actually a high possibility you will land the job, so starting off by lying is not going to look well for your future.
